IBS can be super embarrassing, I get that, but in a bid to help break the poo taboo (one of my fave phrases), I'm sharing more of my story. Back in October 2016 I wrote a favourite blog post of mine, 10 Embarrassing Things About IBS That I’m Not Afraid to Share, and was overwhelmed by all the comments and Tweets that I received. So much so, I decided I’d recreate this post in video form, just f...

What a brilliant video. Sums it all up. The planning takes the enjoyment out of every long trip or social event. It's a horrible issue and can be debilitating but like you say, you'll never know unless you're in that position. People say "well just go the toilet..."... and they don't get the anxiety if you're sitting there up a mountain enjoying the views with not a toilet in sight. Takes the living out of life.

I have had IBS only for a short while, after being newly lactose intolerant. Once I had to 'go' within 15 mins after a coffee at cafe in the park. Yes, I took a risk. It was a disaster. It was dusk and the toilets were closed.... yes you know what happened. Just walking through the farmers market which was busy was hell. My partner was with me and he put his waterproof jacket round me. i was a mess when I got home and had a shower. Boyfriend believes how bad I am now. After that time I much more careful (sometimes) and I started to buy 'adult nappies' and waterproof pants if I am a busy peopley area. I have also a change of clothes ie waterproof trousers in my bag just in case.. As for a mini skirt no way lol Dark trousers can hide so many things. I have started to wear elasticated waist trousers. I have just bought myself a Medical card on Amazon and a Radar toilet for key for emergencies. I can relate to a lot you say. I think the worst thing for me is the pain

I need a portable toilet in my car because if your out there are no bathrooms anywhere. It's infuriating especially for people with IBS!

I don't miss work or social functions but I avoid some people and situations because I'm afraid of shitting myself in front of people or just having people see the sweat and distress on my face. I have had embarrassing situations before that I now try to avoid at all cost!

The hardest thing for me with IBS is if there's no access to a bathroom in public then I panic. I've had to take desperate measures in those cases which I won't go into but it's good to know there are so many other people that share my struggle.

OMG your story about the train! Just 2 weeks ago I got the meanest stomache cramps on the end of my 1:30 bus trip home. I could not hold it in, i got heat flashes and had to call my aunt to pick me up at the station. Whenever the feeling of having to go on the bus I get depressed and hate life. Last time this happened before my work shift ( in an industry area) I had to go and the business next to us did not allow me inside, worst day at work!

Have you tried Xifaxan? My doctor just prescibed this for my IBS-D yesterday. Obviously I haven't started it yet, but she said it is a 2 week course of antibiotics specifically made to "reset" the gut bacteria and flora. She did not promise it would work - she said that it only works for about a fourth of the people who try it - but if it DOES work, it will work like a charm! I am 64 and have suffered with this syndrome for almost my entire life. I don't really remember a time when I didn't have it. Your videos are very refreshing. Thank God for women like you who are not afraid to tell your story. Back in my youth, this was unheard of. I thought I was the only person in the world who had tummy issues because no one spoke about it!

Thanks for this video. This is how it is. Yes, we need your experiences. I am going to find out where the loos are. I absolutely hate walking in the Royal Parks as they are 20p and you have to pay Contactless and I don't have one of those cards. I do recommend taking some waterproof over trousers just in case you have a disaster, they are easy to put on top and you can put them on without a loo. I would recommend taking a small camping loo seat with a hole in it, you can be discreet and have a coat over you.

Today I was in the bank, it was a normal day , there were like 4 people in the queue waiting to the Watchman to open so we could get in , eventually he appeared and we got in, as soon as we got in ( the bank) the supervisor took the keys and locked the exit door, I noticed that and I had a panic attack I felt the fear of having to go to a bathroom I swear to god that I was almost shitting my pants, I started to feel dizzy , sweat really bad and my breathing turned very short, it was like a nightmare and everything turn even worse when the guy with the keys disappeared , I thought that I was going to die just right there , I started to close my eyes and telling myself that I had control over the situation , the queue was moving as well so I was focused on my diligence ,when I saw again the guy with the keys I asked (almost beggin him ) if he could open the door, once he did so. I felt a big relief ,but I was really destroyed , almost in tears due to the things that I can't do like a normal person ,I have ulcerative colitis and this illness is invisible for the rest of the people , Sometimes I think I was not designed for this world, this illness keeps getting me away from basic things , I'm just begging god to take me away.

IBS sufferers, try one table spoon of pure natural honey and add nigella sativa (black) seeds on it and eat it first thing in the morning every day..they will help..in the islamic tradition these two things are used to help with many health issues..comment below after trying it and let me know if it helps

My boyfriend has been very sick for 2 years and he was finally diagnosed with IBS. I've been looking up videos and reading as much as I can for months. I want him to feel better so badly. His stomach hurts every SINGLE day, he misses work at least once a week (he has an understanding manager so that helps), but he misses mainly 2 days every week. Constantly fatigued. The Fodmap Diet didn't do anything, he is taking peppermint pills right now... not seeing any changes, probiotics, nothing.... I'm getting really worried. His metal health is going down hill because of this. Just thought I would let you know that you guys are all so strong... this is very serious syndrome. I just hope we find something that works. I cry everyday for him. I need to be stronger as to not stress him out anymore than he already is. Thank you so much for your tips. I will maybe try to make his surroundings more relaxing. The hot water bottle sounds nice. Good luck to everyone!

You all should try full spectrum CBD. It may help you. It works for IBS. It reduces inflammation inside the gut. Plus relaxes anxiety and helps you sleep much better. Try it out.

ibs is something I honestly wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy. I'm very extroverted (I'm an ESFP in the Myers Briggs Personality Indicator so you can tell how hard it really is). I hate being incapable of going out somewhere & constantly having to worry about weather or not the place I'll be going to will have a bathroom. Dating and traveling is almost impossible. How am I even supposed to meet a super cute guy and tell him that "Hey, I shit a lot !". And it doesn't help that most people tend to be really mean too.

Thank you for your honest videos. It's such a frustrating thing to live with and try to have a normal life inspite of it. For me the anxiety has gotten worse as I get older because I have suffered for 38 years with it. Can you offer any tips of how to cope with the panic and anxiety from the disabling symptoms? I would appreciate your advice because you have actually lived with IBS-D like I have.

Yes, it is quite anxiety inducing. I did it for 11 months. Couldn't take it any longer. I had to restrict my diet to help with the stomach noises. Then no coworker could understand why I couldn't eat gluten and many other foods. They didn't know about the Ibs or the noises or the gas of course, no one wants to share that info with coworkers . So I just said I have intolerances . I ran a fan on my desk even when I was freezing cold. Anything to mask the noise.
